Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) is a non-invasive treatment designed to support the body’s natural healing processes. It involves breathing pure oxygen in a pressurised chamber, allowing your body to absorb significantly higher levels of oxygen than normal.
Under typical conditions, the air we breathe contains around 21% oxygen. During HBOT, this increases to nearly 100%, delivered at higher-than-normal atmospheric pressure. This allows oxygen to dissolve more effectively into the bloodstream and reach areas of the body that may be deprived due to injury, inflammation, or poor circulation.
How does it help the body?
Oxygen plays a critical role in healing. When tissues are damaged, they require more oxygen to repair themselves. HBOT helps by:
- Increasing oxygen delivery to injured tissues
- Supporting the formation of new blood vessels
- Helping the body fight infection
- Reducing inflammation and swelling
By creating an oxygen-rich environment, the body is better equipped to recover naturally.
I’ll be honest, I felt a little strange at first inside the chamber, but I stuck on a podcast and the time passed quicker than I expected. Afterwards, I noticed a definite ease in muscle pain, my thinking felt sharper, and I slept really well that night which for me is a huge bonus. Looking forward to seeing how the benefits build over the next few sessions.

What happens during a session?
During a session, you relax inside a pressurised chamber for around 60–120 minutes. As the pressure increases, you may feel a sensation similar to changes in air pressure during a flight. This is normal and temporary.
Is it safe?
HBOT is generally considered a safe and well-tolerated treatment when carried out under professional supervision. Side effects are typically mild, such as temporary ear pressure or fatigue after a session.
As with any treatment, suitability depends on your individual health, which is why a proper assessment is always recommended before starting.
